KINABALU SUMMIT & JUNGLE TREKKING
No visit to Sabah is quite complete without climbing this famous mountain which at 4,101m. / 13,455 ft makes it South-East Asia¹s highest peak. The mountain and its surroundings make up the Kinabalu National Park, a nature reserve covering a total area of 754 sq km or 291 sq mile. The 5.25 mile trail from Timphon Gate to Lows Peak, the summit, takes you through tropical rain forest, montaine forest, cloud forest to sub alpine vegetation at the peak. Any reasonably fit and energetic person can climb Kinabalu and the reward waiting at the summit is a spectacular sunrise.
BORNEO SUMMIT 2 days / 1 night
Day 1: Pick-up at your hotel and transfer to the Kinabalu Park, a World Heritage Site. Start your trek up the mountain with a specialist mountain guide. Overnight at Panar Laban 10,500 ft. or similar.
Day 02: Start trek for the summit at 0300 hours. Watch the sunrise then head down to Park HQ and transfer back to Kota Kinabalu mid afternoon or transfer to Miki¹s Village as below............
JUNGLE TREKKING 2 days / 1 night
Day 01: Depart your hotel from Kota Kinabalu at 0700Hrs to Kg Kiau - Miki¹s Village.
["Miki's Village"because it is where our top guide Miki lives! We are in the vanguard of eco-tourism in this area through the work Miki and his people are doing to preserve the environment and develop a sustainable
tourism product run by and for the benefit of the indigenous people].
Start with a short trek uphill to have refreshment at Miki's house. Then trek with him across mountain ranges through rice fields into the primary forest. You will cross several mountain streams and reach Miki¹s Campsite.
Construct your campsite for a night in the jungle. [L,D]
Day 02: Jungle trek activities in the morning including spotting for wildlife and plants such as orchids, and pitcher plants etc. then back to your jungle guide house by mid afternoon to be transferred back to your hotel in the evening. (B,L)
